OPEAR-SOS
A pocket-sized autonomous personal search-and-rescue microdrone concept intended to get an emergency message above local obstacles when normal communications are unavailable.
Concept / prototype developmentOne button. One short autonomous mission.
The concept is deliberately simple: store the launch position, take off autonomously, climb above surrounding terrain or buildings, transmit the SOS position while airborne, then return and land.
OPEAR-SOS is being developed around lightweight ArduCopter-compatible control hardware and LoRa/Meshtastic communication. It is a development concept, not a finished or demonstrated product.
Keep it small. Keep it simple.
The current prototype direction uses a minimalist X-frame, two 18650 cells mounted side-by-side as a 2S pack, a compact flight controller/ESC stack above the cells and a temporary RC override during development and testing.
The public concept will be updated as the prototype is built and tested.
